It is a tribute to Wally that he shared his journey with others. He was always the realist and one who thought of others in all of his dealings. I am fortunate to have known Wally and proud that he lived forever true to his human values. Thinking of you all at this time. Tom (and Carol) Bond

Wally -- that is great news! Sure you're relieved to ring that bell. I guess the fact that it's still on the wall is because of a sturdy installation vs. hard ringing (I'm guessing people heard the bell blocks away). Keep up the great attitude -- steaks & beer to follow hopefully! Chris

Emberto Salon 7/9/2009
As the hats are great, you are not showing the 5hrs (opps 5mins) of washing, cutting, sytling and sitting under the blow dryer, work I Emberto created. And it doesn't give room for your hair to grow. But on the other hand Parker said it was awsome that grampa D watch him come to play ball.( Which I hope you had a good laugh and fun)And Kassandra plays ever Mon & Wed.(This game will be much more fun to watch as a baseball game, very competive).See you soon love C N K & P.

I've got about 15 pounds I'll gladly give to you if it'll make you feel better (working in the states for 3 months hasn't been good pleasant for my scale). Haha. I've got a cold beer waiting for you at my house whenever you can make it out here! All the best, take care, and keep up on updating your updates.
Donna Phoenix 6/1/2009
Love the hat! I'm glad you are feeling better this week.
Maureen - Brampton 5/30/2009
Can't say I like the summer hat, but it is better than some of the previous headwear. You need to come out to Sunday baseball. I need someone to keep me company on the sidelines (Chris is the scorekeeper, so he's busy). Last week there was talk of beer this week. You up for that yet?
Nicole and Chris Brampton 5/29/2009
Hi We are glad your feeling a bit better and hope to see you soon. If you need something just let us know!If you want a good laugh you should come see the Sunday baseball game usually start out quite amusing!
Sue Feher / Lanthier 5/29/2009
Hang in there - I don't think anyone is happy with this weird weather. Not losing any more weight is key. Even more importantly, have you had a beer yet???
Wally 5/23/2009
i have to apologize to most of these guest book readers for a few of my "friends" who live in the delusional state where they think that the Ottawa Senators will win a Stanley Cup before those wonderful Toronto Maple Leafs do. It is my personal opinion that perhaps the Ottawa 67's (Jr. 'A' team) have a better chance of doing so before the Senators do. I think these folks just have their teams mixed up.
Barry Ford Ottawa 5/22/2009
Hi Wally, Glad to hear that things are starting to look up. Being able to eat real food again must be great. Getting out on your deck with the nice weather also sounds good, especially if it also includes a glass or two of beer. By the way, ignore Cliff's comments about the Leafs; you are entitled to your dream, even if that's all it is. Keep up the good fight, Barry
Cliff Connerty Nepean 5/21/2009
Wally, I am glad to hear things have turned out well so far. Keep it up. I admire your strength and sense of humour but that stuff about the Leafs winning a cup is pure fantasy. Go Sens Go. Go Wings Go....Cliff

YAHOO!!!! That's good news Wally. We're so glad for you and the family. Dr. Baker at Cloverdale Dental said to tell you that he's thinking about you and will give you a call soon. Oh yeah, he also said that it was time for the girls to come in for a checkup!!!! He said it's been a LONG, LONG, LONG time since their last visit...oh, oh sounds like trouble!!! Take care.
pam and mike ogburn Moncton 5/16/2009
Hi Wally, We've been very slack at keeping in touch lately but that doesn't mean we're not thinking about you and getting progress reports from Princess Pat. Talked to Pat this morning and she was telling me about her big win at the casino. Isn't that great and we told her to come and stand on our front lawn and bring some of her incredible luck to the sale of the house. It's been 2 months and no luck yet. We'll give it three more days and then list with a realtor. We would just like to move forward now and be done with it. Pat said you're doing really well and look great apart from being a little on the slim side. And mowing the lawn two or three times!! Wow! I know the girls are terrific support - what would we do without family? Isn't it great that the warm weather is here - I think May and June are the best months of summer. Wally, you're always in our thoughts and prayers. We'll be in touch soon. Love, Pam and Mike
Maureen Clemens - Brampton 5/15/2009
Hey -- hope all's well in the Doskoch household. Enjoy the great weather while you can -- the frost is on its way. We'll have to plan a day at the track on one of these long weekends. If you're up to it, let us know.

Hey Wally I ran in to Renzo yesterday and he told me about what you’re going through and this site My experience working with you tells me you have the right attitude to fight through this thing It’s not often you work with someone and create a instant bond but it’s an experience you never forget I think with you it was a combination of many things our passion for our work I miss those heated debates and our common interests Family: I’ve been reading through the web site and see why you always talked so proudly about your girls having them at your side will go a long way in helping you through this The Leafs: between the rebuilding and the retirement of Kerry Fraser Leafs chances are getting better every day Nascar: Now that Tony is back in a Chevy I can cheer for him again Baseball: Jays are off to a great start Halladay’s win last night against Burnett was super Beer: What can I say still love the picture you sent me showing me how to convert my old PC into a draft tap

Sir Walter of Doskoch, it's good to hear you're doing well. Now - just get better. I recall our breaks in big D. and borrowing cigarettes from you as we cussed/discussed matters. I almost got hooked. If you still smoke, I owe you a pack. I might soon be able to get a Cuban cigar as you've always been able to, in the current, politically correct state of affairs. About political correctness, you always had a panache for putting it in its correct place, which I always admired. Keep doing your best, and good things will come. Many regards - Mike

Hello Wally. I've been reading your updates on a regular basis, and I'm so glad to see that you are doing well and making significant progress. I wanted to let you know that all your friends at IBM are thinking of you and we want to wish you all the best. Enjoy that beer !

Hi Wally; It your cousin again. I was reading the lates Progress & Status and it sound good. I hope you can keep it up, because if you want to see those Maple Leaf win the Stanley cup you are going to have to live for the next thirty year at least. So I have been praying for you every day. So keep up the good work. LOVE YA YOUR COUSIN Cathy xo xo

Hi Mr. D. So glad to hear that your appetite is coming back. You cannot imagine how many great receipes there are for vegetarians. I had to stop eating meat because of circumstances similar to yours and now I do not even crave meat anymore. The good thing is that you are feeling better....keep up the good work and make sure you get that dietitian to come over for any excuse...I once read that "a women is like a rose you can admire and smell it but do not touch it because of the thorns" therfore who cares that she is married just enjoy her presence. Always in our prayers Maria and Fred

OUTSTANDING NEWS!!!! How wonderfully awesome is that!!!
Doug Whyte 5/6/2009
Dear Wally, I cannot tell you how happy I am to know that the leafs will not win another Cup for 41 years. That has a double reward; first you will be around all of those years to watch some truly inspirational hockey played by Ottawa and Hamilton on alternate years as they bring the Cup back to Canada for the next four decades and second is... oh who gives a rat's ass, as long as we have you and a good hockey team in southern Ontario that's enough. Live long and prosper. LS (leaf suck.com)
Chris M Toronto 5/6/2009
Wally! I just read your updates -- so happy to hear the news! When the day comes that you have your first beer, let us know! (I'd be curious to know what you pick after waiting so long). Chris

Enough of those crazy hats, get something sensible like a beanie with a propeller on top. You remind me of the late Hedda Hopper, had to have a new hat every day!!For the benifit of your viewers - Hedda Hopper was a gossip columnist who wore the most outlandish hats and never the same one ever again. Glad to hear your eating a bit more, hope you'll be up to a T-bone steak when we come down later on this month. Don't forget to stock up on beer and Crown Royal. Looking forward to seeing you and the girls. Brian. P.S. I'll give you a call tonight.

We're actually not too disappointed that you don't have a new hat. There are some who were wondering whether your mind was affected by all this. Horns, feathers, mesh...yikes. Just kidding -- you make anything look good (that's a typical Kevin quote, by the way). If you need a walking partner let me know. I'm game for a drive, then a walk any time. Keep smiling!

well, Dad talks about his "switch" being flipped. Personally I think that based on his rate of progress it is more of a "dimmer switch". I wonder what that says about Dad? Hmmm....

Wow -- too bad I didn't get to see the actual hat. YOU'RE looking good though. Hopefully the switch has turned on for the good weather, too, and you can be outside for some fresh air and exercise. Take care.

Hiya Wally. Just tried your new exercise (lying on the floor trying not to move). It ranks right up there with listening to Celine Dion songs (excruciatingly painful and on the verge of torture). Hey Mr. D: I sent Noel and Chris to the game at the ACC last night. Noel told his Flyers to go easy on the Leafs because he had a friend who was needing a little ray of sunshine from his team. She started her hormone treamtent for breast cancer (she is too old for chemo)and has an appt to get some info on radiation (which should start soon, every day for 5wks). She is a stong lady just like you are a strong man. Keep fighting and stay positive. Big hugs to you and Kim and Krysta.

Hello Walter, I haven't met you yet but feel like I know you. I work at UPS with Krysta. And while she was stationed in Burlington is when I really got a chance to hear about you. I was initially saddened to hear about your circumstances. I have prayed that this will turn around for you and that you will have an opportunity to share with someone else who is in a similar situation. But my other prayer for you, as you navigate this difficult time, is that you will have an opportunity to build stronger relationships, love harder, laugh often and frequently and never miss an opportunity to say something that you want to say. Everyone benefits from someone who lives their life like that! May God continue to bless and keep you. Monica

Mr. Doskoch, I am so sorry about your diagnosis :( If you remember, I was the little brown girl :) that lived at 34 Autumn Glen circle and was best friends with Kimmy for a while growing up. I don't know if you remember, my brother was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 3 years old. He went into remission and relapsed when he was 8 years old. We did a bone marrow transplant, he is now 28 years old. My mom was diagnosed with Colon Cancer Stage 3 in 2007, she did her treatment and surgeries. Mom is re-couping as best as she can she is a little fighter - just like you! Mr. Doskoch, I just wanted to say, Thank-you. I have vivid memories of eating dinners at your house and you took candid photo's of me at our school events when mom and dad couldn't make it out. I have really good memories of you and your family. My husband and I have opened a music school "The Rock School" Last year, we did a big parking lot concert called "Rock Against Cancer" - Perhaps if you are up to it, you could drop by for a bit and help us Rock Against Cancer :) I wish you all the best and please let me know if you do need anything. Lots of Love and I'm sending you good vibes to help you push through this!

Hey Wally, I work with Kim at Chapters and she told me about your site. It sounds like you have the right attitude about the whole thing, and that really helps a lot. As to your problem of who to cheer for in the playoffs, I'd like to direct your attention to Vancouver. I hope you still love Mats Sundin, and Roberto Luongo is always a factor. They've been tearing it up lately, and hopefully this will continue into the playoffs. If you can't get over Sundin leaving us... Calgary is probably the next best team(you've got to cheer for a Canadian team!). They really improved at the trade deadline, even though they've been playing pretty bad lately. Haha sorry for the digression; I'm totally into hockey... Anyway I hope you feel better and beat this so you can see the Leafs win another Stanley Cup!!!
Donna (Blondie) Phoenix 3/27/2009
I ran across an old email from 2003 (yes, I'm a pack rat) were you called me Blondie. Do you know some people still call me that! Hi Uncle Wally. Congratulations on completing 2 sessions. Remember that a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step, each day brings you closer. I hope you know that Dad is thinking of you also. We speak most every day and you are always a part of the conversation. Now that we have a computer at home he is able to come over and see the site, rather than being updated by myself and aunt Brenda. He says he is still crafting the perfect "Leafs" joke. Anyway, we all love you and are thinking of you and the girls every day. Jim and I are thinking of taking Emmett to the Toronto Zoo this summer and would love to see all of you, even briefly. I will be in touch when our plans are confirmed. Take care, Jennifer

Hi Wally, Kim and Krysta, Just in case you think Toronto gets all the bad weather, we had about 5 inches or whatever in cm. of snow last night. Just enough so that we don't get cocky and pack the shovels away. As always, Pat is keeping us up to date on your progress. We thought about you yesterday afternoon as you began the radiation treatments. I understand that the treatments will make you tired but the benefits are the important thing. Pat said your spirits are wonderful and the girls, as always, are totally supportive and as funny as ever. Remember that your Moncton friends keep you in their thoughts and prayers. Love Pam and Mike
Maureen Clemens - Brampton 3/23/2009
We've been thinking about you all today. Just back from our road trip to watch the beloved Flyers defeat both Buffalo and Pittsburgh at their home arenas. We'll see what we can do about watching them do the same to your Leafs sometime next season. Stay strong!

Hey UW, good luck with the first treatment today. Love you.

Hi Wally, Of course Pat has been doing a great job of keeping me updated on your situation but it was still good to come to your web site and see all the photos of you and your family. It's wonderful that you are keeping your spirits up - it really does make a difference. Try not to worry about the radiation too much - it is not painful. The main thing that is likely to happen is that you will feel more tired but now that you've got that custom hospital bed, you can just sleep it off. I am also a member of the "Radiation Tattoo" club. It was over 20 years ago and I now look at those little blue/green dots with fondness, knowing that they helped to save my life. Take good care of yourself, Denise (and Bob and Molly)

I really enjoy your journal and your neat pictures. I run my own business from my home office which is a demonstration agency. You know those ladies in the stores that are offering you cheese on a toothpick or a little cup of yogurt? Well...that's us! You sure do get to meet alot of interesting people that way and lot's of them have a story or 2 to tell! I have a cat ( I will always have a cat) and her name is Mia and she is great company for me...never hurts my feelings and always agree's with me, as she knows that I hold the treat bag! If you feel like it please reply to me and I would love to hear from you. By the way, I love the Viking horns in this picture! What's that all about?? Cheers for now, your new friend, Mary Ann

Howdy uncle Wally, sorry for not messaging earlier but here I am now: So last night my father called me up to go see the sens vs. the leafs for free so i had to say yea. i wore my jearsey, hat gloves, socks, underwear, but didnt paint my face or anything. Well I got into the car only to find out that we were going to pick up 2 more sens fans: my dads buddy Bill and uncle Brian. so i was quite out numbered but that changed as soon as we got to the arena. it was a sea of blue and we were out cheering the lame ottawa fans. too bad we only won the 1st periode and not the game though. Brian went out for a smoke during the 1st intermission and didnt return till 10 mins left in the second periode cause it was just so packed with leaf fans. i couldnt help but sniff at his jacket longedly cause i quit smoking like 10 days ago and man is it hard. but i will not smoke any more. well i hope things are going well in the medical front, i know what its kinda like to be prodded relentlessly and it aint fun but hey if it gets results might as well just suck up the unconfort and well if we can chear for a team that hasnt made the play offs in years we are good at dealing with hardships. well all my love, Geoff.

Gidday From the big city of Carp!!! Glad to hear that everything went well yesterday!!I'm sorry that I failed to phone you on Sunday, crashed out in my chair after supper. By that time you should be over the loss.

Hi Wally, Gertie Get Rich just called to say she won at the Casino yesterday - couldn't happen to a better person! Remember last September when you picked up Pat and I at Woodbine - we had been there for hours and won zip, you were there for five minutes and won $175.00! Figures. Pat said you like the pictures of our new house at the lake, especially the floors. In that case we expect you to make a personal inspection to give your stamp of approval. We'll be there for about a week in April and hope to do our final move in early July. That is, of course, if we sell this home quickly. Went up for sale on Wednesday. Our Moncton real estate is staying pretty level despite the economy so we have our fingers crossed. We hear you have a fabulous hat - you know, the onion bag one. This I have to see. Take care, kiddo. We'll drop a note in a few days. Love Pam and Mike

Emailing you from another Leaf-fan house here in Ottawa thinking of you at this time. It seems from reading a great deal of the entries "sports" seem to be a continuing theme.I feel kind of out of the loop on that one though I do believe the Leafs will win again...(I can still remember 1967!!- I have always been somewhat delusional on items I know little or nothing about...) The other is of course you Wally and Kim and Krysta and your journey at the moment. I think you guys have been doing a super job in asking questions, questioning the doctors and nurses to get the information you need and then moving forward. A true inspiration from where I sit... My parents send their best wishes and prayers of course. (Theirs will probably be answered rather than us old lapsed RC's). I am thinking of you guys, wishing I was there to give you a big hug and will keep on reading the website and staying in touch.... Love ya all!!!
Bjorn Larsen Toronto 3/4/2009
Spent a couple of hours with Wally last night, hoping for that male nurse to appear - but alas, no such luck. I will continue to visit you Wally, for as long as you can handle me - you are in my thoughts constantly and you will pull through this, believe me. You may not be able to go flying with me again (remember that dark night when the red light came on?) but we will do other things together. We are all there for you and will do whatever is necessary - your friend Bjorn.

Hi Wally. Brien mentioned that a web site was going to be set up and I just found it. It's a great idea because everybody wants to hear how you are doing but we don't want to be bugging you all the time. It doesn't sound like a great way to get back to your playing weight, but Im glad to hear you have lots of support, and your positive attitude towards fighting this challenge is sure to help. As I mentioned in my last Email, the poker group is still waiting for you to get back here for a game or two. Cheryl and I are cheering for you
Brenda and Brian Mellor Ottawa 2/13/2009
Hi Wally!! Finally able to click into your web site, with the help of Doug. "I'm a dinosaur when it comes to computers" This web site is fantastic - now I'm able to print off everything and bring it home to Brenda - saves me trying to remember evrything. Contacted all the guys in "The Poker Club" and told them about your situation, they have asked me to send you their Best Wishes for a speedy recovery. By the way the next poker game is Feb. 20 - I'll save you a seat. I was a bit taken back by Doug's remarks regarding the Sens - but not surprised, considering he's outnumbered by his family - all leaf supporters. He's also a Tiger Cat fan - go figure?? By the way SENS WON AGAIN last night, that's three in a row. LOOKOUT PLAYOFFS. I also informed John, Pat and Marion and their thoughts are with you.On a more serious note - although we are in Ottawa, the three of you are constantly in our thoughts and prayers.Knowing you for the past forty some years, I know you won't take this lying down - your a stubborn "old" bugger. All our love and prayers - Brenda and Brian. P.S. Tell Ed to put the bottle of cognac in the freezer, when it gets low - he knows the results.

Wally, you certainly deserve the very best. Only the best for the best. I poured 2 shots of CR the other night, one for you and one for me. First I drank mine - it was real fine. Then I drank yours. Yours was actually better than mine - Darn good it was! If I drive up there, I'm gonna tell you to "Get in the truck, __!" a phrase that scared all you guys in Dallas. Hey, my daughter got married in Vegas Monday, 02-09. Went up there and had a nice time. Put $10 in the quarter slots for you and won $20. Couldn't win any for myself. Riddle me that. Will be repeating the CR 2-Test soon & will let you know how it goes. Good to hear you're getting excellent care & attention. Thinking of you, & as always best regards. Mike

Hi Wally, Brenda and Brian brought me up to speed on your health situation and the site has provided a great source for updates. I am glad to hear that there was early detection and you have a thorough action plan. Usually I would throw in a smart ass remark about the Sens vs Leafs or make a witty hair loss joke but you have carefully planned all of this to coincide with the worst season in years for the Sens and at a time when every photo of me from behind brings the stark reality of hair loss jokes home. So all I'm left with is Go Leafs go, may your locks regenerate and require two haircuts a week. I am thinking of you and praying for the best. Stay strong, you too Kim and Krysta. Love, Doug
